Maritime Transport supports Poppy Appeal with fleet-wide tribute

Posted 15 Nov 2023

Maritime Transport Ltd., the UK’s leading provider of integrated road and rail freight logistics, is proud to announce its continued support for the Royal British Legion’s (RBL) Poppy Appeal. For the ninth consecutive year, poppies have been fitted to more than 1,000 Maritime trucks as a show of support for the Armed Forces community, and to commemorate the immeasurable sacrifices made by those who lost their lives in the First World War and subsequent conflicts.

In a unified effort, employees at Maritime comprising drivers, operational staff, and ex-service personnel, volunteered on 28th and 29th October to fit poppies to the front grille of each vehicle stationed across the Company’s 40+ sites.

Poppies will be displayed for the duration of November, serving as an important reminder to motorists up and down the country of the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, veterans, and their families, from the beginning of the First World War right up to present day.

John Williams, Group Executive Chairman, Maritime Transport:

‘We are delighted to continue our support for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal this year, which has, for over 100 years, raised billions for serving and ex-service personnel and their families. Charitable support is at the heart of our company culture which we have extended to a number of charities over the years, including the British Red Cross’ Turkey-Syria earthquake and Ukraine Crisis appeals. We are also one of a group of transport-related companies that make up the Port Community Fund, a unique initiative dedicated to supporting a wide-range of charitable and community organisations in Felixstowe and the surrounding area. It's our way of making a meaningful impact beyond our core business, and we are proud to do so.’

Mandi Cox-Osborne, Poppy Appeal Manager ‑ Suffolk, The Royal British Legion:

‘It’s great to see Maritime supporting the Poppy Appeal for the ninth consecutive year, alongside the essential work it carries out to support the Armed Forces community through other initiatives including its Professional Driver Scheme, making a real difference to service leavers with C+E entitlement. We are extremely grateful for the Company’s substantial donation this year, which will ensure the Royal British Legion can continue to provide life-changing services.’
